50 YEARS OF CUBAN REVOLUTION

by Twyla Mae Vargas Johnson
(cayman Islands)

I am a Caymanian, I have just arrived back from Cuba, after spending three weeks. I was there in november to December this year and made 5 visits o the Island last year.
It is unbelieveable, the improvements I see taking place in Havana and Camaguey. I usually stay in Camaguey. I was very impressed to see the work that the Government is slowly doing. Havana has become a paradise, so clean, buildings being slowly repaired and happier faces.
Camaguey, Is slowly comming back much cleaner, an I was so impressed to see the old dilapidated mercado being torn down and a new on set up in a different cleaner location. Thumbs up for the government. I think the Government is slowly doing a wonderful job.

I would like to hear that the government has raised the salary double of all empoyees, and allow them to buy property to build or to buy a home, with long term payment.
I do pray that the people of Cuba have a little patience and realize that living in a Democratic world is not all that good. Changing the 50 years revolution will come with, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly of Crime. I think that President Raul is doing a wonderful job, and changing the party of his cabinet was a good move. I support the revolution, I am a writer of children stories, artist and teacher. My dream is to one day assist with volunter work in an orphanage in Cuba, I love working with children. Long live Fidel and the Revolution.

50 years and counting
by: Anonymous

50 years of communism has taken its toll on the morality and self worth in the island. Cubans today are masters of manupliation and they seem to be doing it too well. To lie is a way of life, to steal and sell your body is often justified due to harsh economic times. Unfortunetly, many non-cubans tend to misunderstand this concept and are quick to jump to defend these tyoe of behavior and actions without truly understanding the culutre that exsists in Cuba today. I have visitied many poor miserable latin countires and I did'nt see this type abuse that one can only experience in Cuba. Being Cuban and having relatives in cuba, I too cannot understand why so many abusive, dishonest and manupulative people? The result of 50 years of corruption and lies to 11 million people that have no place to go.

TRUE FEELINGS ON THE REVOLUTION
by: Twyla Vargas Johnson

Dear Democyacy, by anonymous. my response to your comments comments re. The Cuban 50 years of revolution are my opinions, and are in no way political, and dont necessarily have to be accepted by anyone. however, like your self I have had the opportunity to examine both worlds, meaning I have lived in USA and other countries, and also my Island in the Caribbean and Cuba, which is an hour away from Cuba.
The crime and violence that takes place in the Democratic world is by far more that take place in Cuba which has a much larger population.
Meeting a Cuban in Cuba, whether they are intelligent or not, (and 95% seems very intelligent), They tend to change quickly when they are on democratic soil. This change is however superficial and is only adopted to suit their enviromental mentality which they have adopted. The bright lights and the chance of having the whole world and loosing their own soul.
To enjoy the best of two worlds, is to be yourself and speak from the heart. Cuba is one of the most beautiful places I have visited. I live very comfortably in my country, will always visit Cuba, and there is very little about the place that I would love to see change. USA has much to offer in material things, but the peace and tranquility of Cuba by far is more rewarding.

Democracy
by: Anonymous

Living in a democratic world is NOT THAT GOOD?? What are you talking about? You believe in having you basic freedoms oppressed due to a difference of opinion with the government? If this isnt a pro Cuban website, I dont know what is.

Havana-guide.com is a Non-political website, we try to be objective, on the home page we give links to other sites both, ANTI and PRO government, we let the visitor decide what will be His or Her "truth" that's democracy too. We will not allow political discussions because they are mostly sided, unreliable and damage all parties.
But yes, Havana-guide, in a NON POLITICAL sense, want to be a PRO Cuban people site, to show the real life in Havana with the good and bad sides, the daily struggle of the population but also the daily solidarity, the beauty of the unspoiled beaches, but also the tragedy of a city in decay, that was once the capital of Latin America.
