ATMs in Havana Cuba

by Isabel
(Germany)

Hi, I got an visa-card by DKB, german bank with no connection to the US. I really would like to know if there is a listing of all the ATMs in Havanna. I'm going to spend half a year there and want to know where the closests ATM are around. I know there are two at calle obispo, but thats not quite near my place... Thanks for help!

I suppose that there is no list of ATM's in Havana
as there are few and not many users. The majority of the Cubans have no bank account let alone a creditcard. I have used the ATM in Obispo street once, but I have not much confidence in machines in Cuba due to the poor maintenance. What if your card disappear in the machine?
I always want to talk to a "live" cashier instead of a machine in Cuba.

I suppose that you want to withdraw cash (Peso Converible) with your creditcard (debit cards are not accepted in Cuba), the best you can do is to go to a bank or a major tourist hotel, the important tourist hotels have a Cadeca (exhange service) in their lobby.
In Old Havana you can withdraw money at the (big) Cadeca in Obispo street or at BANCO DE CREDITO Y COMERCIO – BANDEC, Calle Amargura 158 esquina calle Cuba

In Central Havana you can go to the Cadeca inside Hotel Parque Central (in front of the square Parque Central)
In the Havana Vedado district, you can go to the Cadeca in one of the major hotels, Hotel Melia Cohiba or Hotel Nacional de Cuba (both along the Malecon) or Hotel Habana Libre at the 23th street (near Havana University)
In the Havana Miramar district, go to the Cadeca in Hotel Comodoro or to Banco Financiero Internacional SA. 5ta avenida n° 9009 esquina calle 92 Miramar Playa la Habana.
or
Banco Metropolitan
5ta avenida y calle 112
miramar playa la Habana

The three major banks (see above) have other branches go inside and ask for the nearest branch.
Many bank employees do speak english. Ask your bank in Germany if they can preload your creditcard, it seems to be less expensive. Note that the transaction costs are not cheap, limit the quantity of your money withdrawl.
Have a nice stay in Havana!
