Boxing in Havana Cuba

by Elliott Chambers
(London)

I wish to box in Havana in August. Where should I go, Will there be any trainers there, and how much should I expect to pay.
Thanks.

ANSWER by Vic webmaster Havana-guide.com
Cuba has a great boxing tradition and skilled trainers but there is one big problem the infrastructure is out of date. There is a lack of training materials. For example in boxing schools
youths use old tires to train. An other problem I see, the schools are for Cubans, officialy as a foreigner you can not attend training sessions. So I am afraid that you have to find a trainer who want to do a bit of moonlighting, can arrange a session after hours for a decent tip. Take along your own gloves, bandages and a towel. Don't expect showers and modern facilities.
Having said this, you can go to the "Kid Chocolate" sports hall opposite the Capitolio check the links below and good luck!
