The Cohiba Cuban Cigar
"Once the favorite cigar of Fidel Castro,
the Cohiba is still considered as one of the finest cigars
ever made in the world"
The Cohiba Cuban cigar was longtime the cigar of
Fidel Castro until he stopped smoking.
The original Cohiba cigars were not for sale but only fabricated as a gift for diplomats
and foreign visitors.
The brand name was an idea of Celia Sanchez one of the revolutionaries who fought
on the side of Fidel Castro. "Cohiba" means in the ancient Taino language : 'bundle of
tobacco leaves'.
The Cohiba cigars are made in the "Villa El Laguito" factory in Havana Miramar under
the supervision of Rafael Collazo Cabrera, director of the Cohiba cigar production.
From the start the Cohiba cigars were of top quality and are distinguished from the other
Cuban quality cigars by their three fermentations. The price of the Cohiba cigars is
40-50% higher than other premium Havana brands, despite this the Cohiba is still a best seller and at the "El Laguito" factory alone the daily production exceed 10,000 units.
In 1982 the Cohiba cigars were presented to the public for consumption.

Many Cohiba cigars that are sold are Dominican Cohiba's this are not bad cigars but are no real Cohiba Cuban cigars. The tobacco leaves for the Cohiba cigars are mainly cultivated in the Cuban Pinar del Rio province this tobacco is considered by cigar experts as the best tobacco in the world.
When buying Cohiba cigars watch for:
The original Cohiba box is made of cedar wood and not of cheaper grades of wood.
At the bottom of the box you must see the Cuban Governmental stamp with the text 'Habanos SA - Hecho in Cuba'
The gold lettering on the cigar band must be in embossed and shiny print, counterfeits have a mat color.
