CUBA CAR ACCIDENT - Cody Lecompte Accident
by Vic
Renting a Car in Cuba? Think twice!
Many Cuba tourists are unaware that different laws apply in Cuba than in their homeland.
When you are involved in a Cuban car accident you are not allowed to leave the country
and have to wait sometimes for months before your case comes to the court.
In the past this has led to tragedies. Now again a case appears!
Cody LeCompte, a 19 year old, a Canadian citizen being held for over two months at his
parents’ expense in Cuba without any legal charges having been laid.
Pending the outcome of a traffic court inquiry, Cody could be facing up to 3 years
in a Cuban prison and the accident was not his fault.
So far the Canadian Government has not done anything of value to aid the young
man or his family.

My wife and I have toured to Cuba twice for two weeks each
time. The first time, we took another couple. The second time, we took a
different couple. That second couple then returned on their own. ALL THAT ENDS
HERE AND NOW unti
Cody LeCompte is charged and set to speedy trial or freed to
return to Canada.
We represent tens of thousands of tourist dollars you will never see again and
we are encouraging our friends to boycott Cuba also.

I have just read of the tragedy that is happening to a young Canadian man, Cody LeCompte,
who was involved in a car accident while vacationing in Cuba. This accident happened in APRIL
and no trial date has been set and he cannot leave! I am appalled at this situation and
cannot believe this could happen.
I will be reconsidering my travel plans to Cuba if this is how vacationers are treated.
There MUST be some provision for those you call friends from Canada.
This boy is only 19 years old. Please look into this and make some changes.
Cuba's tourism future depends on it.

I have been a loyal traveller/vacationer to the gorgeous
island of Cuba for many, many years. Please do what you can to get the
negative press off your beautiful island by speeding up the court proceedings
of Cody Lecompte. The island of Cuba is getting hammered around the world with
the negative press regarding the plight of Cody and his Mom while they await
their trial in which they haven't been charged with a crime.

My Letter to Cuban Tourism Board in Canada:
I have contacted the Office of the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs and
others with respect to the case of Mr. Cody LeCompte - a Canadian teenager held
a virtual prisoner in your country. His detainment in the country is highly
disproportionate to the offense.
I, as well as a growing number of Canadians are paying close attention to the
actions of the Cuban officials in this case. As your single largest source of
foreign tourists, the Cuban government has an obligation to be responsive to
demands for fair treatment. This case has failed-to-date to live up to this
standard.
All of us in Canada will be closely following the growing media reports over
this case in the coming days.
