Cuba Dog - Traveling With Your Dog to Cuba
Can we bring our dog to Cuba?
Can I move my dog to Cuba?
Traveling with my dog to Cuba?
These are frequently asked questions about dogs in Cuba.
In our visitors comments section, we got a great Cuba dog testimonial from Davis Hawn all about
traveling with your dog to Cuba.
Davis writes :
"Cuban officials were wonderful and fancy documents and translations are not needed as people say.
(I can send you the official Cuban regulations if you like)
Trust me I know! All...repeat all ...you need is your vet certificate showing that your dog
has received the rabies vaccine. It won't hurt to have a copy of your dog shots records or the international Aphis
form BUT that isn't required.
As far as a Cuban government translated and "blessed" document...baloney!
The airport vet will review your rabies certificate and help you. If your dog is healthy there
is no problem.
There is no automatic quarantine. A vet will call you to make an appointment to visit your dog
(every 14 days) and he has the right to require a home quarantine, but it won't happen unless
you have a mangy dog, etc. I asked the Vet if he has ever required a quarantine and he
said never for a dog. They have the "right" ...and that protects society and is only common sense.
The police and officials at the airport loved my dog, smiled, and all was great. I had
an easier time getting my dog into Cuba than getting him into my owned condo in
Destin Florida!
The proof of this statement is very clear on the internet. Many Condo associatios in the
USA are far more difficult and less understanding than officials in Cuba.
BTW the street dogs in Havana are as loving as the Cuban people! The street dogs,
like the Cuban people are not aggressive. You will stay in a casa, but you will be able to
find casa's where you can stay with your dog. I met many people and presidents of
organizations while accompanied by my dog. We were even invited to appear on live
Cuban television! I am still getting emails from Cuban dog lovers.
I adopted a stray off the streets of Havana and look forward to "Fidelitys" arrival next
month here in the U.S.
If your dog is a service dog fly on Bahamasair. As a result of my trip they have incorporated
service dog access into their operations manual. I believe they also fly small dogs in
carriers in the plane with you, but please, verify this.
I tore up Cubana tickets so I could fly on Bahamasair. (You can fly to Havana from Nasau)
There is no reason to leave your "family member" behind.
Many casa owners will be delighted to "babysit" your dog if need be as they are looking for
business and they are loving, accomodating people.
Go to Cuba , have a great time and take your dog to the beach too (Varadero)
You are free to enjoy your dog in Cuba!
