Cuban Baseball History
Cuban Sports
Cuban Baseball 'beisbol' or 'pelote' like the Cubans call it is the national sport in Cuba.
The first championship was played in 1878 between Habana and Almedares.
Many of the famous Cuban players have defected to the USA in the recent years, among them
the famous Orlando " El Duque " Hernandez.
Havana has his own team : " Havana Industriales", they play in the Estadio Latinoamericano , in
the Havana Cerro district.
The Latinoamericano Stadium has a capacity of more than 50,000 seats , an electronic
score board, vip rooms etc. The stadium has been used for many international events.
