Divorce in Cuba

by Jen
(Canada)

I married a cuban man 7 years ago and a month after he told me he didn't want to move to Canada. Unfortunately all the documents were left with him in Cuba to bring to Havana to register but he never did. Because he never registered anything and I never registered in Canada...do we need a Divorce? I don't know how to find him. His family doesn't have a phone and I am not going to jump on a plane and cross Cuba looking for him. \\Help

To clarify the situation, I understand that you prepared all the needed documents for a marriage in Havana Cuba.
Did you both signed the
marriage contract in Cuba in front of a Cuban notary and two witnesses? The normal procedure is that you immediately after the cermony receive both a copy of the marriage contract. You mentioned that you married a Cuban man seven years ago, in this case you must have passed the cermony in front of the notary. The moment you sign the notary document you are officialy married in Cuba. The registration is done by the notary in Cuba, not by you or your husband. So if you are really officially married, you should have gotten a marriage certificate immediately from the Cuban public notary right on the spot. Do you need a divorce? Well it's not clear to me that you are really married if you don't hold the marriage certificate. Where is your legal copy? Did you got it from the notary after the cermony? You both receive an identical legal copy from the notary! In case you have the marriage certificate you can start a divorce procedure in Cuba. This can be done from outside Cuba. For the latest information about this matter contact the Cuban embassy in Canada. The procedure can be done without your presence in Cuba, a Cuban lawyer can take all the needed steps. The presence of your husband is not needed.

Do not even spend a minute worrying about your Cuban liar and fraud. Thank God you didn't bring him to your country.

Forget about him. He'll or She'll play the game with another and he'll need and get a divorce without you. It is easy for Cubans and save your money and forget about him or her.
