Where would you rather spend more time: Havana or Varadero?

My husband and I are spending 2 days in Havana (Occidental Miramar) followed by 4 days in Varadero (Allegro Varadero). We have 2 days to play with. Would you rather spend those 2 extra days in Varadero or Havana?

Answer by Vic Webmaster Havana-guide.com

It depends on what you want, do you like the sun, beach and fun scene, than Varadero is OK for you.
But on the other hand Havana is so much more. Sorry, to say but you are staying only two days in Havana, two weeks (months) is not enough to see
all places of interest in Havana. So I would opt for two extra days in Havana. Visit the Old city and the many museums, or explore the city with the tourist bus, you can go to the Playas del Este, a nice Havana beach, let a taxi driver in an vintage car show you the city. Take a ride on a Coco taxi. Discover the tobacco factories, Havana nightlife, the daily Cuban life, Havana has so much to tell and show.
Have a nice trip!

Most Definitely Havana!

I agree with Vic, two days is not nearly enough to spent in Havana. ideally you should stay for a month in that beautiful city.

Havana ooozes culture, art, music, fabulous architecture and fun.

You can take a bus out to Playa del Este when you tire of the hustle and bustle of the city. Enjoy a lobster dinner on the beach for a fraction of what you'd pay at the resorts.

Personally I do not see the attraction of souless bland resorts like Varadero which reflect the culture of Cuba as much as Miami. People go there to bake in the sun round the pool all day.

They rough at bland all you can eat buffets.Drink like fish. If they venture off the resort they'll find pizza parlours and a shopping mall, it could be Coney Island or New Jersey.

The security guard outside their hotel will spin them some sob story about his kid's birthday how he needs $10 to buy him a pizza, with his hand out. Nice little earner if 10 tourists fall for that scam every day.

You'll encounter bitches from hell at the reception of hotels in Varadero.

Frosty faced Matriarchs on the make jaded by four decades of tourism who will only smile if you cross their palm with a $5 note. Otherwise you will be on the receiving end of a fierce rebuke and a look that could kill, that is when they are not looking into their make up mirror patching up their powder blue eye shadow.

Nasty 'animation' shows which feature dogs and donkeys being cruelly treated, all in the name of 'fun'.

Aquas Azules should be ashamed of itself for whipping puppies on stage. Vile animation team who have a laugh at the female guest's expense by hauling them up on stage and peering up their skirts to raise a laugh from the audience.

The lifeguards in Varadero are prepared to sell their bodies and souls for $10 under the guise of a 'massage. Sleazy or what!.

On the beach you'll barely see the ocean for the army of obese Canadians and American huge beached whales in tight black lycra shorts as they wobble along on the look out for a Cuban gigolo.

No, choose Havana if you want to know the real Cuba. And go now, before it changes forever.
