How long can I stay in Cuba?

by Jennifer
(Miami, FL, U.S.)

I am deaf American born in Florida but my mother is Cuban and how long can I stay in Cuba?

My mother and me plan to go to Cuba together.
My mother will stay there for one week.
I will stay there for 2 1/2 months.
Will I get trouble in Cuba and American?
I don't need Visa Card.

ANSWER by Vic Webmaster Havana-guide.com

You are born in Florida USA, for the Cuban authorities you are a US citizen and you have to buy a tourist visa (tarjeta tourista)(25 CUC) at the Cuban Immigration Services, this visa is valid for 30 days and after 30 days you can get one extention for another 30 days. After a stay of 60 days you have to leave Cuba.
Your mother is another story, when she is born in Cuba, she will be treated as a Cuban citizen, the Cuban government does not accept dual nationality (Cuban-US). The best she can do is to contact the Cuban Interests Section located at the Swiss Embassy in Washington to apply for a visa.
For the US authorities you need an OFAC license to travel to Cuba. Normal vacation or tourist travel to Cuba is still restricted for US citizens. Your expenses in Cuba are limited by US authorities.

I want to go back to Cuba with my husband and children
by: Anonymous

Hi everyone:

I was born in Cuba but when I was 18 years old I arrived legally to the US with my mother. At the age of 27 I got my US Citizenship. Now I want to go back to Cuba with my family. Mu husband is cuban, he is a Permanent Resident of the United States and our 4 children are US Citizens by birth. I need to know what can we do or where do we need to go to reach our dream. My children agens are from 2 years old to 12 years olds. I need to know if they can go to school over there, if they can have theirlegal documents like they have here in America. Please, I will appreciate any help you can provide me with. Thank you very much. Oh !, I forgot to say that my husband and I have 3 children together but the father of my other child is in another country. We have no idea where he is located at. I also would like to know if I can take my daughter toCuba forever. I have full custody of my child. Thank you very much.
