Hi Jenna, funny you should mention Cuba and Gambia in the same post, as I have been to both, been to Cuba a few times.

Apart From The Sharks I Felt Safe In Cuba

I am referring to the the typical Jinitero sharks who will leech, stick to you like superglue in an effort to extract food, drinks and literally the shirt off your back - including the contents of your suitcase.

If you see through their B.S.If you realise they have been pre-programmed to work you, play you, con you.

Spin their sob stories and their 'Te Quero Mucho' B.S. scripts then you will fore armed, forewarned, aware, and safe.

Just laugh at them when they start their spin which they will on the second night, they really are such good actors.

We never felt threatened for our safety in Cuba.

The reality is so very different in the Gambia where one of my friends was mugged in broad daylight. Another was stalked and harrassed and assaulted by a former bumster turned manager of Palm Beach hote- Bax. Amazingly he was not arrested when she reported the crime to the police.

They just asked if she was single and if she had an email adddress.

The Gambia has become the bargain bucket sleaze and crime ridden destinaton on the world with Jobe Binte their Director of Tourism at the helm.

No doubt she is also on a big fat bribe like every other official in the Gambia from the police to the military and hotel manager who stands back while his guests are assaulted.

Deportations from Gambia are rife, so mnay are deported back to the UK every week, such is the level of tourist they get.

We also witnessed a female tourist being assaulted while no one helped.

The Gambia Tourism Authority should be ashamed of itself for targetting the world's low lifes who fly there to traffic drugs, drink them senseless and sleep with chidren.

Pedophila is soaring.

Benidorm must be breathing a sigh of relief now that every low life British chavvy scumbag dregs of society has departed their shores for the Gambia.

Avoid at all costs if you value your safety. Women are just not safe in the Gambia, a country steeped in corruption, poverty and disease, where just a tiny 7% of their tourism budget trickles down to the community.

Yes just 7%.

The rest makes it's way to the bank accounts of the UK, India and the Lebanon.

Little wonder there is such high crime, hunger, illiteracy and poverty.

In Cuba at least you are safe, apart from the odd Jinitero, which you can if are forewarned just learn to avoid his tricks then he is powerless to con you.

I Felt Safe In Cuba - Apart From The Sharks!

I have to say that as a woman I felt safe in Cuba, apart from the odd Jinitero who is pre promgramed with the tired on jaded 'Te Quero Mucho' script as he tries to leech off you, con you into buying him drinks, food and literally have the shirt off your back and every piece of clothing in your suitcase.

But as a woman I felt safe at night, very protected. My friend was mugged in Gambia as she walked on the beach.

Another friend was assaulted by a former bumster turned manager - a guy caled Bax, of the Palm Beach hotel. He was not even sacked when she reported him. The Police only wanted her email add and asked if she was single!.

He stalked her,assaulted locked her in his room and called her relentlessly.

We also witnessed a woman being assaulted there.

Gambia really has sunk to the bargain basement destination of the world. . Attracting every low life criminal who go there for sex with very young girls , drug trafficking, booze.Pedophilia is rife.

You are on your own in the Gambia if you are mugged rapped or rbbed.

At least in Cuba there is still a semblance of justice and as a woman you will feel safe from violent crime.

In Gambia you will be at real risk.

As a woman I would never return there, and I would not advise any woman to do so.

Gambia Is Far More Corrupt Than Cuba

I agree with the last poster when she says that Gambia is more corrupt than Cuba. The men there also smell badly they never wash.

Everyone you meet there from the Police to the Military is in search of a bribe. The country is steeped in corruption. I was not surprised to read that their Chief of Police was involved in a two ton haul of cocaine smuggling from Colombia last year.
(Just Google it).

We witnesed a female tourist being brutally assaulted by a violent old wite British woman, the type who goes there frequently to lseep wth 'Bumsters' as they are known. The woman was covered in blood the so called 'Tourist Military Police' did absolutely nothing.

We advised the woman to contact the Br. High Commission who called the police who arrested the woman.

Guess what?.

After a caution and a 'fine' or should I say bribe of 4,000 Dalasi (£50) she was set free to assault more vulnerable female tourists.

Gambia is rotten through and through. If you are robbed, mugged Gd help you, you;re on you're own. The only reason a reported crime is followed up is so they can extract, elicit money from the attacker then the report disappears and the attacker is free.

Gambian men are the laziest in the world, they make a profession of harrassing and pursuing the Touba (Yuma), some stupid older women fall for the banter, buy homes there and are conned out of every last dime.

The lazy man and his extended family claim the lot.

Meanwhile the viscious vilent grandmother Karen Edwards, living on social security, who flies to Gambia five times a year to drink smoke and sleeps with these scumbags walks free to go on and abuse more vulnerable tourists.

I would not recommend Gambia to my worst enemy.

Cubans Top The League of World Scammers

Whilst I accept Jim's down to earth comments about not generalsing and there being good and bad everywhere, I have to say that Cuban have perfected the art of the con, the scam, Deception.

They are well educated for a start. They are good looking. They've been conditioned from early childhood in survival skills.

Growing up with a single mum who knows every trick in the book about survival, scamming men, turning on the charm. I8t's how she's managed to raise her children on a shoestring while her husband has long since diappeared with her neighbour or charmed a Yuma into a flight to Toronto.

Any country steeped in poverty will have good looking con men telling you they love you so much marry me. But Cubans truly have perfected the art of the con, while keeping a straight face, sincerity in their eyes.

Gambia is a nation of corrupt lazy charmers who will tell a woman anything in order to escape their drime ridden, corrupt nation where their Chief of Police was jailed last month for a 20 ton cocaine haul from Colombia. Their own police chief!!.

Where dirty old English male pensioners, living on welfare go to sleep with very young Gambian girls for money, and ugly old low life English chav women who travel for sex and get more than they bargained for.

Pedophila is rife there!

Is it any wonder they will charm a woman in order to escape?. They are hungry, jobless with no hope, they are also, just like the Cuban Jiniteros extremely lazy and would prefer to hustle a foreign woman that get their hands dirty on a construction site where they could earn an honest liiving.

You can be scammed in any country in the world. But I have to say the Jinitero takes the prize for perfecting the art of the con in a believeable manner.

Just be very careful.

Have fun, do not go there seeking romance, you will leave with an empty wallet or emptier suitcase.

They will sell everything you gave them to fund the latest style so they can charm the next Yuma.

They depise you really.

They always have a Cuban g/friend (s)

Look out for their style of dress. Nike Adidas latest Football shirt, IPod expensive cellphone is a dead giveaway.

Take my advise tell them to take a hike and you will have a far better time in Cuba which really is a beautiful country.

I have been to Cuba many time's and have seen these Cuban's take advantage,steal,and make you believe that black is white-they will lie-cheat and in some case's even assult you.
Even though this activity happen's all around the world-"Los Cubano's" are the most notorious of all and have ruined many live's.
Father's selling their son's and daughter's for sex-wive's sending their husband's trolling tourist area's for unsuspecting tourist's-and the men do the same.
They cannot be trusted for anything they are well versed and consummate liar's,and many innocent victim's have fallen prey.
Yes go to Cuba have fun, bring protection,and leave the Cubano in Cuba where they belong and let them wallow in their own crap,before they turn your life into one big out door crap house-

Take Responsibility While On Vacation

I can't help but comment on this very bigoted writing about Cubanos and Cuba. This is no more true than to conclude that every crook in Montreal, Toronto, or New York represents the entire population of millions of wonderful people. In all of these cities you watch your wallet, stay out of brothels and don't drink too much so you lose control and open yourself up to criminals. This is no more true than the Cubans who conlcude that Canadians are drunks, cheap, and stupid because of the way some rude Canadians behave in Cuba. I think those of us who have been in Cuban homes and have had extremely loving and caring conversations with Cubanos who have suffered a lot with incredible strength will understand more than those who go down for a cheap vacation on all inclusive resorts and use Cuba as a sunny winter bar to get mindlessly drunk in. Like any big City, in Havana there are those who will cheat you. There are those in Paris and Rome who will likewise take advantage. When we travel we need to be on guard and that includes making assumption about Caribbean Island romantic encounters, or those that could take place in Rome, Madrid, NY, or Montreal. Travel wise, be smart and count your change wherever you go. Any if you seek sex on your vacation remember that you went there with that in mind so take responsibility for it.
