Lenght of holiday stay in Havana and Varadero ?

by jackie
(Middlesex )

How long do you suggest I book my holiday in Havana and then Varadero?

Answer by Vic Webmaster

It all depends on your personal preferences:
Are you a "sun, fun, beach animal" book two weeks in Varadero, after a one week Havana visit.

Are you interested in the Latin Culture, museums, the people, salsa dancing, nightlife, streetlife, Havana is the place for you. Two weeks are not enough to see all the important things. After Havana you can book one or two (beach only) weeks in Varadero.
Have a nice trip!

Varadero Is Not Cuba!
by: Anonymous

You might as well be in Blackpool, why travel 8,000 miles to sit on packed beaches full of obese North Americans and Canadians, hustlers doing their best to part you from your money and spinning you B.S. into believing they love you so as to gain a visa out.

Bland tasteless buffets, shopping mall, the most 'American' feel of any part of Cuba. No character but is hustler central, all of whom pay money to work there so they can lampoon in a gullible tourist con you and if they're lucky and you fall for the bull they will have hit the jackpot at your expense.

Personally I would give both Havana and Varadero a very wide berth.

You will not find the real Cuba in either location, we were hassled beyond belief in Havana one rainy night where the streets smelt badly and we were chased by those bicitaxis. A nightmare.

Head off to Trinidad, Holguin, Baraco, Santiago for a taste of the real Cuba while it lasts.

Save yourself a headache and stress if you want to experience Cuba you will not find it in the Varadero or Havana of today.
Remark by Vic

Strange concusion, the majority of the tourists like the crowded beaches (without locals)
I have seen more beaches in the world than you can imagine, and the local Havana beaches (Playas del Este) are still the nicest beaches I have seen. And yes, mainly locals, no Mc Donalds and Starbucks, but real Cubans and havana Club rum.
If you don't like the quiet Havana beaches you can go to Miami, Ibiza, DR, Cancun, Acapulco, Varadero, etc.
If you choose for Varadero, the Cuban Capital of the jinetero's (hustlers) well you can expect all this stuff. It's up to you what you want of your vacation. I can walk for weeks in Havana without seeing any tourist or jinetera having a great time.
