Parque Lenin is a large park (750 ha) at the Southern edge of Havana city and a popular destination for Cubans in search of entertainment and a place to picnic during the weekend.
Parque Lenin provides amusement for adults and children in the form of caroussels, bicycle hire, horse riding and a motorcycle circuit.
Parque Lenin is not a typical tourist attraction, but a pleasant location to spend a Sunday. I enjoyed the horse ride through the beautiful park together with our Cuban guides. Even if you never have been on horseback, the Cubans will teach you the essentials in less than five minutes.
Parque Lenin can be reached by the Camello bus, but I advise you to travel by car or taxi.
For maximum fun we invited a couple of Cuban friends, rented a minibus with driver and did the trip “a lo Cubano”, the Cuban way, that is with the rum bottle at hand. I never before had such a pleasant horse riding afternoon.
