love in Cuba?

by RM
(Mexico)

In my first trip to cuba I visited Matanzas, and made a friend about 3 years younger than me (I am 28) and in my first night he introduced me to over 25 people. I met a lady in a non tourist bar (a friend of a friend of my friend)we spoke all the night and at the end of the trip (about 4 days) she told me that she felt in love with me ( she is 24) she didn't ask for money she only asked me when I would return to the island.
She mails me every week and she asks me if it is posible to buy some stuff like a dvd player or clothes and she could sell it and save the money to pay the bills when I will come back. So I do not know if she is a really honest cuban or does she only see my as a way to earn some money for herself.

CAREFUL ABOUT FALLING IN LOVE WITH A CUBAN
by: Twyla Vargas

I AGREE, please be careful about falling in love with a Cuban, man or woman. They are experts in pretending to love you. My honest problem is that they do not tell the truth, and are hipocritical with it trying to tell you that they love you. How can you love someone in 4 days, Its something else, but it is not love. Please do not believe them. If you want to help someone do so, but if they tell you they love you, tell them you do not want to hear that, and you only want to be a friend. Besides that young Cubans, are not devoted to their partners, and they divorce so fast like changing gear and move on to another. Ask yourself if that is what you want. If you are only out for an adventure and spend money, then I say hook up with a Cuban.

This sounds like a typical Cuban scam
by: vic

I should advice you to be very alert, it sounds like a typical Cuba scam. Many of the Cuban youngsters don't want to work because of their salary will be only 8 dollars per month. Some prefer an illegal job like a "jinetero" (a hustler) or a "jinetera" (partime escort girl), this way they can earn in one day more than a month wage.
They will ask for stuff that is easy salable. A few years ago, this was powdered milk or cigarettes, nowdays it's a DVD player, a MP3 player or sports shoes. It's good to know that most Cuban girls have several "foreign lovers".
When you leave Cuba, she will probaly fall in love with the next tourist. It's sad, but it's
the daily life in Cuba. The "acid test" for true love in Cuba is simple....stop giving money or other stuff, when the friendship is real it will
continue without money or gifts. True friendship is a precious and rare gift and can not be bought. Good Luck!and all the best!
