ATM's in Havana?
I'm going to Cuba but am getting confused about the money.
I have read in a couple guide books that ATMs are sparse and some
need a PIN and therefore cash cards won't work.
My bank advised me to take a credit card in case
So, was just wondering, how common are the Cuban ATM's?

You need to understand that Cuba has no tradition of bank accounts. The majority of the Cubans has no bank account because they can't afford it. To open a bank account with a Cuban bank you need at least 50 CUC ( 50 peso convertible, about 45 USD) more than two month salary for the average Cuban. Having said this, yes ATM's are sparse in Cuba even in big cities like Havana they are limited. Debit cards or cash cards (foreign cards) can not be used. Only Visa and Master Card can be used in banks.
But withdrawing cash with a credit card is expensive your best option is take enough cash
with you, Pounds, Canadian dollar or Euros, no USD as there is an extra charge of 10% on the USD.
Cash is king in Cuba, do not expect to pay with a Visa card in a restaurant or shop, card
terminals are non existant.
