My Australian friend - Tickets for Cuba
by Sarah Atkinson
(Mexico)
My Australian friend and I have just bought tickets to Cuba in November, she flies here to Mexico and then we fly there together. However, we have just found out that the Cuban Consulate in Australia is closed unttil halfway through our proposed trip to Cuba!! And we are meant to be leaving here, Mexico, on a Sunday. So the embassy here would be closed too..Does anyone have any advice on what we could do in these circumstances? Many thanks, Sarah

When your passports are valid (for at least 6 months) you can always enter Cuba on a tourist visa (tarjeta tourista).
This tourist visa is valid for 30 days and can be extended once (up to 60 days total) than you have to leave the country. You can buy the tourist visa (25 cuc) at the immigration services at the major Cuban airports.
You also need to buy a Medical Insurance for the time you stay in Cuba.
Note that some airlines don't let you board without a visa. You can always try the Cuban airlines (Cubana) between Cancun and Havana.
Have a nice trip!
