safest way to marry a cuban?

How to marry a Cubana?

How to marry a Cubana?

I'm thinking of playing rusian roulette and marring a cuban girl who i've lived with in cuba for a year and a half and never spent more than one night apart from her, no big age difference and who has always worked as a school teacher and studied in university. But however having read these stories on here i'm having trouble sleeping at night!! If I do go ahead with marriage I want to make sure I'm financially covered wether I marry her in london or cuba or both. Is it possible to get a pre nup in cuba and if not i've heard that I would have to split all assets in half with her and if all my assets are in london and I dont have anything in cuba how can a cuban government enforce that or even know what my assets are if I dont tell them or simply tell them i'm broke?

ANSWER by Vic webmaster Havana-guide.com

Don't play Rusian roulette in love affairs it can ruin your relation!
I understand your concerns and it's good you do think about the consequences of a Cuban marriage. You have to know that 70% (official statistics) of all marriages in Cuba end in a divorce and that the Latin culture differs from the Western culture and opinions. Having said this, there are of course many long-term happy marriages too in Cuba.
But it's always smart to protect your assets, you never know what will happen in the long run, I also recommend separate bank accounts. You can FIRST marry in London according to the British legislation and with a British pre-marriage contract stating that all assets before the marriage will remain yours in case of a divorce. Suppose the worst scenario, your Cuban wife can come from Cuba to London ask for a divorce, engage a British sollicitor and claim half of your assets. With a pre-arranged marriage contract following the British laws this move is worthless.

Later you can marry again in Cuba and have a Cuban marriage certificate too. As far as I know a pre-marriage (assets) contract does not exist in Cuba, the case has to pass before the court, and a fifty-fifty decision is possible. So it's wise to leave your assets in London protected by British laws.
Important note I am no lawyer, so don't take this as a legal advise. I strongly recommend to get some legal advice from a lawyer in the UK as well as a lawyer in Havana Cuba.

Don't do it
by: Anonymous

My cousin from Canada worked hard when she met Tony. Tony wanted desparately to marry her. She made many trips to the Cuban Lawyer in Toronto. She made several trips to Cuba to see Tony. They finally got permission to marry and they did. They had a beautiful ceremony. A few family members went to the wedding. Everything was looking up. Well she found out that another woman had just given birth to his baby. She was from another country. He had just received permission to travel to Canada. His plan was to come to canada then take off to Belgium. This was where the other woman and child were. Because my cousin found out she was able to stop him from leaving Cuba. Tony told her he would just find himself another tourist.

DESPERATE!!
by: Desperate

I studied in Cuba where I met a girl. We have been talking about getting married, but recently i came across this site and have become really frightened. She is a university graduate and am african. She has always been very nice but now am apprehensive of whatever goog she might have done. I considre it a ploy to get out of Cuba. But I love her. Her parents say she should not marry me because I am black and african (according to her). But she insists that I am her choice. I am confused and don't really know what to do. Can anyone offer any piece of advice. Please Do.....

Hi, 'Desperate' SORRY, I 'll give my honest, but brutal opinion, sorry again!
This has absolutly nothing to do with racism or you being an 'African' but all with money, dinero in Spanish. Let's accept you love each other sincerly. How will you live in Cuba? There's no work, housing shortage (three generations living together in a small apartment is quite common). If you have no permanent residence visa, you have NO social security, no libreta (food rations) no free medical services etc.(I assume that you live now on a 'Student visa' in Cuba) Her parents probably see the "extra cost" of a new family member instead of a (wealthy) ticket out of Cuba for their daughther.
Once again, sorry for my observations, don't take this personally, it isn't!
Wish you all the best!

Why Marry?
by: Hamilton

These days more couples are chosing to just live together. Personally I cannot see the point of marriage.

The very institution has been defiled.
Tainted by those who abuse it anyway, purely for selfish reasons, i.e. a passport out of poverty, or for a meal ticket for life, meaning they are Gold diggers.

There is a whole generation in Cuba who would prefer to earn their living on their back. Targetting men like you.

Attractive young women who prefer to tell foreign men 'Te Quiero Mucho' script, than to put in an honest day's work.

Same as the men, they prefer to play the tourist women than work these days, or they pay lots of money to work in the tourism industry.
I am not saying that your woman is like that. But I witnessed an attractive professional woman, a doctor in her late 20's who married an ugly Spanish man twice her age. Why? money, he manages one of the leading hotels in Varadero. She is wearing him out and the hotel is going downhill.

She's a Reggaeton fan and he follows her out to Club Mambo every night. She wears him out with clubbing.

She has not worked a day since they married and she is living the life of Riley. She's snared her sugar daddy.
Another aspect of hotels that annoys me is you have to watch your stuff. Only yesterday I noticed my very favourite top was missing.

Not about the cost, as it was not valuable, but I happened to actually like it and it really annoys me.

Last time I saw it was at that hotel in Varadero. Many of the staff remarked how nice it was.

Ladies watch that you have all your clothing when you pack. They really are ruthless!. And it annoys me.

They are greedy and they (hotel staff) get way more than most Cubans do. But they never stop hustling you.

Pilon is Right
by: Donna

Ask yourself what advantages there are to marrying your girlfrient, even if she is a teacher.

And remember it's the professional Cubans who know how to work the system and the Yumas.

They have more access to the internet and to tourists.

You will find their profiles increasngly on Facebook and on other social networking sites hustling for a wife or husband, since their methods are being clamped down on in Cuba by the police especially in Havana Santiago and other resort towns where they prey on foreigners.

So there is absolutely no advantage to you by marrying her. She on the other hand stands to profit unless you take the steps recommended by Vic to protect your assets.

btw it rarely works out when Cuban women are flown to Europe.

I have seen examples of the angry demanding shrews addicted to shopping which they morph into when I was on vacation in Italy.

Italian men love Cuban women, but when they marry them it but it rarely works. They rarely adapt to life abroad.

I have seen the same here in Toronto.

They remain emotionally and psychologically attached to Cuba and tend to do a disappearing act into the Cuban community as soon as their papers arrive.

Vic is Right! Protect Your Assets!
by: Donna

Vic always provides sound solid advice. He's right, you must protect your assets.

Last year in Holguin I met a lovely Canadian man, I would say he was in his 60's. He had been dynamic in his day and had a successful career as a Photographer.

In fact he was the official photographer for the 'Romero de Mayo' Festival for which he did not charge. They were very grateful to him and he has endeared himself to many Holguin officials.

He had a younger Cuban wife, in her thirties whom he loved.

Not long after her papers were finalised she hired a Canadian lawyer in Toronto, and filed for divorce and took him to the cleaners.

The poor man lost his house to her and most of his assets.

She really cleaned him out. He was heartbroken, had known her for three years prior to their marriage.

He has fallen for a younger woman again, also from Holguin.

However this time he is paying a trusted Cuban friend to follow her and record her moves on a cellphone which he has provided.

Basically he will never trust another Cuban woman again.

I wish you luck, but please do protect your assets.

Love as they say, can be blind.
