Training for boxing in havana Cuba

by jesse pineiro
(vancouver, canada)

My boxing team is planning on coming to havana in december and we are hoping to find a place to train for a week with cuban fighters, is this possible? I have heard that the kid chocolate gym is a good one but maybe there are others?

As far as I know, only the Kid Chocolate sports hall will be accessible. In the past some places were closed, there are a few small boxing school mostly for younsters. A word of caution, don't expect a modern infrastructure or equipment there is a shortage of many materials. I have been once there and I doubt whether they have showers.
But Cuba has motivated boxers and a great boxing tradition, try to find someone at the Kid Chocolate (in front of the Capitolio) for more info on training sessions.

Boxing Club in Havana
by: Anonymous

Hello,

My boyfriend and I are going to be heading to Cuba for two weeks and want to do a week in Havana studying Spanish, where we also wanted to work out at a boxing gym. If you know of any gyms and prices it would be great. Also I figure that we should bring a gift to leave at the gym - any suggestions of what would be good (boxing gloves/ something that can fit into a suitcase!)
