I have used my Mastercard at a book store at the Commercial Building (shopping center)in Varadero. It will show US funds on your statement though and will add few more dollars to your actual cost of the item.
Nothing beats cold hard cash!!

You can use Mastercard and Visa in the tourist areas like Varadero and Havana. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this practice. Go to a bank and buy cash with you creditcard if only for security reasons. I have heard of copied cards in Havana.

Visa Cards are accepted in Cuba by: Vic
Yes, Visa Cards are accepted in Cuba, if not issued
by a US Bank ( because of the US embargo)but only in
banks and official State Exchange agencies (Cadeca)
It's NOT possible to pay with Visa in restaurants, shops or most hotels.( No Visa terminals available)
