Waiting for Snow in Havana

Waiting for snow in havana, December 2010, large parts of Europe struggle with heavy snow fall that cause the usual problems, delays of trains and busses, car accidents.
Friends in Havana also complained about the cold, "tenemos 7 grados aqui" (temperature here is 7°C) and in Matanzas, light snow fall was reported.

I remembered the words of de American chocolate magnate Milton Hershey about Cubans and the weather in Cuba: "Cuba is a country where the inhabitants found it hot if the temperature went over 80°F (26°C) and cold if it dropped to 70°F (21°C). A day later an other source confirmed a temperature of 5°C in Havana, whaw that's cold for Cuba, my curiosity was aroused....did they ever saw snow in Havana? My first search result was a book named :

Waiting for Snow in Havana

Waiting for snow in Havana : Confessions of a Cuban boy written by Carlos Eire. The story of the 14,000 children airlifted out of Cuba, the memories of 11 year old Carlos about his life in Havana and the lost paradise. Nice reading...but not exactly the info I was looking for.....real snow in Havana

Snow in Cuba - The Real Thing?

On my searches for snow in Havana I came across a website of the Cuban Journalists Association (Cubaperiodistas) They mention an article in the Cuban magazine "Carteles" dated December 28 1932, with the stunning title "Hoy ha nevado en La Habana” (Today it snowed in Havana) Accidently it only snowed on December 28, and in Cuba this is "el dia de inocentes" (the day of the innocent) this is a traditional day for jokes, it can be compared to the Western April Fools' Day, a day when everybody tolerates practical jokes. Admire the wonderful pictures of snow in Havana, the Capitolio and Parque Central covered with snow, but don't forget it's fake, it was "photoshopped" before the invention of the computer, call it humor Cubano!
Look at the beautiful pictures: Snow in Havana

Cuba Climate in December

December 16 2010, Cuba has registered its lowest temperatures in the last 50 years! In Havana 12.1°C (53°F) was registered and in the province of Matanzas 1.9°C (35°F) according to the Havana-based Institute of Meteorology.

Note for tourists:
In December and January the temperature during the daytime is still pleasant, but the evenings and nights can be chilly, so don't forget your sweater or jacket.
